Senior Ryder Cup Newsletter - May 2018
In the coming days the 2018 Senior Ryder Cup season will be underway. This is the 20th year of activity where members will enjoy the competition and camaraderie of the Senior Ryder Cup. The growth from 4 member clubs in 1999, to 112 member clubs, has made the Senior Ryder Cup Canada's largest team golf competition. Over 1200 players will participate in this year's edition of the Senior Ryder Cup.
Member clubs and playoffs
12 additional member clubs are in place for the 2018 season bringing the participating golf club total to 112. Clubs are divided into four regions - Central, Niagara, North East and South West. Each region has 7 divisions with 4 clubs per division. In an effort to provide more teams an opportunity to advance to the championship day the number of playoffs is expanding to four events - one for each region. The top two teams, in each division, qualify for the playoffs. Half of the SRC member clubs will qualify for the playoffs.
The Niagara playoff is at the Dundas Valley G.C. on Tuesday, August 7th, the Central playoff at the Briars G.C. (Sutton West) on Monday, August 20th, the North East playoff at Tangle Creek G. & C.C. (Thornton near Barrie) on Tuesday, August 21st and the Southwest playoff at London's Highland C.C. on Monday, August 27th.
Senior Ryder Cup Championship
The top four teams, from each playoff, qualify for the Championship event scheduled for the classic and picturesque Saugeen G.C. (est. 1925 - www.saugeengolf.com
) on September 14th.
The Championship day is expanding to include a practice round, and sponsor reception, on Thursday, September 13th. Saugeen members have embraced the Championship and are preparing an exciting program to make the Championship a day to remember.
