Senior Ryder Cup members lead the way amongst Canadian contestants at the Golf Canada Senior Canadian Amateur.
Friday the 13th was a lucky day for Ashley Chinner of the Coppinwood SRC team and Lars Melander of the Oakville Golf Club SRC team as they finished second and third, respectively, at the Golf Canada Senior Men’s Championship (age 55 and over) played at the Cedar Brae Golf Club in Scarborough. They were the top Canadians as Chinner, (-1), edged Melander (even) by one shot in a head to head match. Chinner used Callaway irons in his success. ‘This was my 1st Canadian Senior, a very enjoyable experience indeed’ noted Chinner.
Lars Melander won the Canadian Super Senior Championship (age 65 and over) with a four-shot victory over the second - place American finisher and 8 shots ahead of third place. “This is something I’ve worked towards for 13 years,” stated Melander. “Last year I finished third and this year I got it done. It was exhilarating to finally win another Canadian championship. The last one I won was the PGA of Canada’s Assistant’s Championship in Vancouver in 1974.”
Melander is shown below, being awarded his Gold Medal.
