Newsletter # 19 - Senior Ryder Cup - South-West Region Playoff
Senior Ryder Cup Playoff Update - August 16, 2019
The fourth, and final, event of the 2019 Senior Ryder playoffs was played on Friday, August 16th at the well conditioned Maple City Golf Club in Chatham. The parkland style course had greens running at 11 on the stimp meter making for challenging course conditions for 128 of the best SRC golfers from the South-West region. Sunny skies with little wind made for ideal scoring conditions.
The 16 clubs were competing to join the twelve clubs already qualified for the Senior Ryder Cup Championship being contested at Devil’s Pulpit on September 5th.
West Haven Golf and Country Club finished in first place earning 20 of a possible 24 points. In a tightly contested battle, there was a three-way tie for second place with each team earning 16 of a possible 24 points. The Oaks Golf Club, Sunningdale Golf & Country Club and Listowel Golf Club have qualified for the 2019 SRC Championship.
The winning team Captains are seen below with SRC President Gene Gordon and SRC Vice – President and Chair of SRC Playoffs and Championships, Tom Nederpel.
For the fourth consecutive playoff event, Jackson Triggs Wines awarded a case of their premium wines to the winners of two closest to the pin holes. Ken Faubert, of the Willow Ridge Golf & Country Club, cut a 7- iron to get to within 2 ft. 9 in. from the pin on the 149-yard third hole. Jay Cressman, of the Elmira Golf Club, lasered a 5 wood to within 3 ft. 1 in. on the 191-yard 16th hole. Jackson Triggs also donated complimentary wine tasting vouchers for each of the winner’s teammates. Pictures of the lucky winners, and their happy teammates, are shown below.
A special bonus was offered to players at Maple City. Lexus of London provided a brand-new Lexus RX 350 for a ‘hole in one’. Two of Lexus of London’s management team, Stephanie Shearsby and Charisse Marson, were in attendance and are pictured below along with Lexus RX 350. In spite of some valiant efforts the RX 350 was unclaimed.
Of special note is that Mike Connors is a member of the Listowel Golf Club team. Mike’s son, Corey, a winner at this year’s Texas Valero Open on the PGA Tour has qualified for the season ending PGA Tour Championship, for the Fed Ex Cup, at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
