Senior Ryder Cup
President’s 2019 Spring Update
On behalf of your Board of Directors welcome to the 21st edition of the Senior Ryder Cup, Canada’s largest team golf competition. Almost 1500 of Ontario’s leading senior golfers are participating in this year’s matches. 1000 regular season matches will be conducted with play continuing through July. Two teams from each of the 31 divisions will qualify for the four regional playoffs being conducted at Dundas Valley (August 6), The Briars (August 12), Tangle Creek (August 13) and Maple City (August 16). Qualifying teams, from each playoff will participate in the SRC Championship at Devil’s Pulpit on September 5th. Click onto our website (www.seniorrydercup.com) to keep up to date with Divisional results throughout the season! Click on “Tournaments” to view dates of SRC Member Club Events. To add your Club’s Senior Invitational date, contact our Director of Web Management, Phil Stevens, at email email@example.com.
Our winter newsletter announced expansion to a record 120 golf clubs participating for this season. We are pleased to further announce our initial foray into Eastern Ontario with the addition of four golf clubs including Brockville Golf and Country Club, Carleton Golf and Yacht Club, Perth Golf Course and Smiths Falls Golf and Country Club. Welcome to those clubs and their team members. Our complement of participating golf clubs is now 124 (31 divisions) and the SRC Board of Directors anticipates further Eastern Ontario expansion for 2020.
The Senior Ryder Cup is overseen and conducted by volunteer Directors. We are looking for two SRC Members to step forward to fill existing vacancies on our 10-person Board. Both the Website Management Committee and the Sponsorship Management & Development Committee are looking for experienced and committed individuals, who know, and play, or have played, in the SRC. If you, or someone you know, has an interest in either of these roles, please forward me an expression of interest, together with a brief career & golf background note, with any goals you may have to promote the success of the SRC (email: firstname.lastname@example.org). We will follow-up with your email response by June 21st.
We thank our SRC sponsors for their continued commitment to the Senior Ryder Cup for the 2019 season - Callaway Golf, Jackson Triggs Wines, Lexus of London and Visit Tucson. Members are encouraged to support our sponsors. During the season you will be hearing more from each sponsor.
Host Club Captain’s Responsibilities
Payment of the SRC Match Admin Fee of $480 (32 players @$15/player) should be submitted to the SRC Treasurer as soon as possible after completion of the matches at your Club. The preferred payment method is for the Captain to send an e-transfer of $480 from his personal bank account to our treasurer at email@example.com. Alternately, the Captain can issue a personal cheque payable in this amount to the "Senior Ryder Cup Group" which can be mailed to our treasurer at the following address:
1096 Westhaven Drive
Should the Captain wish to ask his Club to remit the SRC Match Admin Fee of $480 by cheque, it is the Captain's responsibility to follow up and ensure that this payment has been made to the SRC Treasurer.
At the end of this newsletter there is a listing of the ’20 Must Know Rules of Golf for 2019’ which highlights this year’s major rule changes. For this season only if you see an infraction, we suggest the infraction be mentioned to the offending player rather than have the penalty be enforced.
Continued efforts are being made to enhance the SRC website (www.seniorrydercup.com) for all members to be provided with a well-informed experience. Among other items there is significant historical information on team and individual performances over the past several years.
As part of the website updates, we are providing additional functionality to make the workload easier for Captains. We are automatically generating Match and Team Score sheets as well as Cart signs for your regular season event. Once the rosters are set for your event and the ‘Roster email’ has been sent, Captains can go to the ‘update Event’ tab and click the two buttons (‘Score Sheet’ and ‘Cart Signs’) and pdf files will be sent to your email address. The files can then be printed. We use the same format that has been used during last year’s Playoff and Championship events.
Later this summer a survey will be sent to each SRC member seeking their input in a number of areas. Your responses will serve to guide the Board of Directors in ensuring the member experience will be a positive one. Further information will be provided in the coming months.
