In Memoriam

William (Bill) Sheldon

William (Bill) Sheldon a former Senior Ryder Cup Captain, and long time SRC participant, passed away on Thursday, April 30th, 2020.

Bill was originally a member of the Summit Golf Club SRC team. He moved to the Windsor area and joined the Pointe West Golf Club in Amherstburg. He was the key person in that area for the growth of the SRC where he worked diligently to successfully form SRC Divisions with Pointe West, Essex, Beach Grove, Kingsville, Sutton Creek and Maple City.

Bill authored a South West SRC Newsletter, which he sent every Spring and Fall to all SRC Members in that region to promote the SRC and outline all the exciting developments of the season. This Newsletter and the ongoing season long Match Updates (which went to all area players after each Match) were professional in their presentation and led to the SRC acknowledgement of the need for a Director to become Chair of a Standing Committee for Public Relations & Communications. That committee is now in place.

Bill continued to play for his team and assisted all new Captains with the computer set-up and the organization of SRC events.

Among his many golf successes, Bill teamed with Paul Neilson to win the 2008 Ontario Senior Men’s Better Ball.

To honor Bill and his contributions to the Senior Ryder Cup, under SRC Bylaws: Section M ‘Naming of Regions & Division’ Part #1, Point #3 – ‘Members who have contributed substantially to the growth and promotion of the SRC.

The SRC Board have determined Bill has met the intent of the By Law and have unanimously voted to rename Division ‘T’ of the South West Region to ‘Bill Sheldon Division’.

The Senior Ryder Cup sends its sincerest condolences to Bill’s family.

May he rest in peace.
