Senior Ryder Cup Playoff Update
East Region - August 19, 2022
One hundred and twenty eight of the best Senior Ryder Cup golfers from the East Region faced off at the picturesque and hilly Brockville Country Club. The golfers experienced refreshing but not defying winds and mostly sunny conditions with temperatures in the mid to high 20s. The course as usual was challenging including three lengthy par 3s on the back nine, each demanding accuracy and distance. Length created problems on some holes, while the short par 4, number 11 required creativity and astute decision making. In many ways it was an ideal golfing day and our seniors responded with some excellent golf.
The 16 clubs competing to play at the SRC Championships at Lookout Point included: Cataraqui Golf and Country Club, Champlain Golf Club, Eagle Creek Golf Club, Hawkesbury Golf and Curling Club, Hyland Golf Club, Kawartha Golf Club, Lindsay Golf Club, Orchard Beach Golf Club, Perth Golf Club, Peterborough Golf Club, Pembroke Golf Club, Pine Crest Golf and Country Club, Renfrew Golf Club, Smuggler’s Glen Golf Club, Whitevale Golf Club, Whitlock Golf and Country Club.
The East has very quickly become a very competitive region with the possibility of a number of clubs asserting themselves as potential winners including past winners Peterborough, Cataraqui and Kawartha. The winner this year was Smugglers Glen Golf Club from the 1000 Islands area near Gananoque. While they were surprising winners (to themselves and competitors) with 19 points, they narrowly beat out last year’s second place team, Hyland Golf Club with 18 points and Whitevale golf club with 17 points. All three of these clubs advance to the SRC Championship at Lookout Point Golf Club on September 18th and 19th. Those not qualifying for the Championship but still tightly bunched near the qualifiers include a threesome, Peterborough, Perth and Whitlock, all with 16 points. Last year’s first and third place teams, Cataraqui and Kawartha followed with 14 points.

Hats donated by Tilley were presented to the winning club members from Smugglers Glen.
Special thanks goes to Brockville Golf and Curling Club which once again prepared a challenging course, prepared great food and assisted in making this a well organized event.
